What is cold sore?

Cold sore is chronic recurrent viral infection with a typical presentation on skin or mucous membrane. Lesions consist of single or multiple groups of small vesicles filled with fluid on slightly raised red bases which ulcerate.

What are some triggers for cold sore?

Sunlight, high arginine diet, fever, infections, physical or emotional stress, trauma to the skin, sexual stimulation, immunosuppression.

Avoid: high arginine foods (chocolate, nuts and seeds, coconut, gelatin, buckwheat), during acute attack, avoid chickpeas, lentils, wheat, oat, barley, eggplant, tomatoes, squash, spicy foods, fried, fatty, rich salty foods, alcohol.
